All our committees include experienced professionals with knowledge of a particular topic within health or social care. Professional members also bring specific technical skills to the process of developing and shaping our guidance.
Professional members can include:
- NHS staff
- healthcare professionals
- local government staff
- social care practitioners
- allied health professionals
- representatives from the life sciences industry
- academics.

Professional member roles
Chair
The chair helps the committee to work collaboratively and ensures that all committee members contribute equally. The chair also makes sure the committee follows our policies, methods and processes.
Topic expert
We appoint topic experts to join committee meetings covering topics related to their expertise.
Member
Committee members are appointed for 3 years, or for the whole of the development of a guideline. They're expected to attend all meetings.
