What is OpenAthens?
It is an authentication system that acts as a key to unlock access to resources for eligible health and care staff.
An NHS OpenAthens account gives access from any device, to NHS-funded:
- online books
- evidence sources
This includes resources purchased nationally for all staff and any additional resources purchased locally by employer organisations.
Access is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Once you have an account, the best place to start your search is the NHS Knowledge and Library Hub. This gives you a single place to start your search across a range of resources for your work, professional development, study and research.
OpenAthens accounts are managed by our network of administrators. If you have a question, find your NHS OpenAthens administrator.
You can login to change your password, or update your personal details (including your organisation or your email address) at any time.
Any personal data submitted as part of the registration process will be used by NICE for the administration and management of the OpenAthens service.
Your personal data will be held in a database by Jisc, who manage OpenAthens and process your data on behalf of NICE. The database will be accessible by your local OpenAthens administrator, your regional administrator, and the national administrator, who are all responsible for maintaining the system and providing you with information on the resources available.
Further information about how NICE may use your personal information and your rights to change or delete it can be found in our privacy notice.
