The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has issued full guidance to the NHS in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland on Selective dorsal rhizotomy for spasticity in cerebral palsy.

It replaces the previous guidance on Selective dorsal rhizotomy for spasticity in cerebral palsy  (NICE interventional procedures guidance 195, November 2006).

Description

The aim of selective dorsal rhizotomy is to ease muscle spasticity and improve mobility in people with cerebral palsy. It involves cutting nerves in the lower spine that are responsible for muscle rigidity.
