The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has issued full guidance to the NHS in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland on laparoscopic mobilisation of the greater omentum for breast reconstruction.

Description

Breast reconstruction surgery is carried out to try and restore the shape of the breast after surgery to remove part of or the whole breast. The omentum is a sheet of fat attached to the stomach, which can be moved to the breast cavity by tunnelling it under the skin (it stays attached to its original blood supply). In this procedure, the omentum is mobilised using 'keyhole' surgery.
